The Second International Conference on the Film Histories of Taiwan and Asia Cinemas: A Comparison of Korean and Taiwan Cinemas under Japanese Colonial Rule is set to be held on October 1 & 2, 2016.

We are honored to invite reknowned Japanese film historian and President of Japan Institute of Moving Image, Prof. Tadao Sato, to give a keynote speech entitled “The Colonial Korean Talkie Production and Cooperation System". Four important scholars and experts on Japanese and Korean film histories are also invited to give speeches in this year’s conference:
(1) Prof. Aaron of Yale University will talk about “Colonial Era Korean Cinema and the Problem of Internalization".
(2) Prof. Yomota Inuhiko of Tokyo University will talk about “Representation of Children in Korean Cinema in the period of Imperial Assimilation under Japanese Colonization".
(3) Dr. Chung Chonghwa of Korean Film Institute in the Korean Film Archive and the Institute for Research in Humanities of Kyoto University will talk about “The Colonial Korean Talkie Production and Cooperation System".
(4) Dr. Yi Young-Jae of Center for Cross Culture Studies of Sung Kyun Kwan University will talk about “Dual Language, Dubbed Cinema: A Colonial Enlightenment Subject in Homeless Angels (Ch’oe In-gyu, 1941)".
After a blind review by a selection committee, eight papers have been selected to be presented in this year’s conference. They were written by scholars, students from Harvard Univ., Univ. of Michigan, Université Lumière Lyon 2, Hong Kong Chinese Univ., Univ. of Hong Kong, Taipei National Univ. of the Arts, Tainan Univ., and Tsing Hua University.
